It’s certainly possible to have a dye stealer. I had a dye stealer on 17dpo, normal progesterone (24), and hcg levels typical of a normal pregnancy (even doubled at first) and still had an ectopic. I will say that I didn't get a positive pregnancy test until my missed period, but it got darker quickly.

I would say that after you get a dye stealer, stop testing to see if they get darker because they’re not meant to steal dye from the control line so it’s not a good way to determine your hcg. If you’re worried you can always reach out to your provider for an hcg draw for a few days :) 4.
