No water shoes needed at this beach. There were rolling waves and not much undertow. There were occasional waves large enough to body surf. I brought my own mask/fins and snorkel and spent close to 2 hours checking out the reef and rocks. Adding to the obvious attraction of this gorgeous bay, the snorkeling is absolutely spectacular! If lucky and the weather cooperates, you will find huge Tarpon, squid, octopus, box fish, trigger fish, loads of parrot fish, thousands of interesting little reef dwellers and various coral formations. Brewers Bay Beach is one of the hidden gems of the island, and one of the best snorkeling beaches in St. Thomas. The beach is close to the Cyril E King Airport on Charlotte Amalie West. It doesn’t get a lot of tourists and is more commonly filled with locals. The snorkeling is great around the area.

Make sure to bring towels or beach chairs to use. There's plenty of shade all along the beach so no need for an umbrella. The water is nice and calm here as well, so great for families with small children. If you like to look for sea glass, this is a great place to go as well and we found quite a bit here.
